Citrus Infused Cranberry Sauce

When cooking a big dinner, it is always nice to have a sweet element to help cut through the richness of all the dishes. I think that’s why the cranberry sauce is an essential part of any holiday dinner. I have never really had a huge fascination about cranberry sauce and usually they can be too simple and kind of boring. Not to further diminish the simplicity of this classic side dish, I present to you my Citrus Infused Cranberry Sauce. 

340 g bag of Cranberries
1 cup of water
3/4 cup of sugar
1 star anise
2 sticks of cinnamon (Alternatively 1 tsp cinnamon powder)
1/4 cup of tangerine juice
Zest of 1 tangerine

In a saucepan, place all the ingredients in and give it a good mix.

Set the pan on low heat and let it simmer. Keep going back and mixing once in a while, just to make sure everything incorporates evenly. 

Keep tasting your sauce and modify to your liking. You could always substitute citrus with some nice apple cider and green apple peels, to get different, yet fresh flavors. This is easily a very versatile recipe so make it your way! 🙂
